The First Church Unit of United Methodist Women is composed of women whose purpose is to know God and work towards missions to benefit women children and youth.  Started in 1869 when a group of 8 Boston women collected coins to support a missionary to India the group has merged with varied women mission groups through the years to a world wide organization of women of the Methodist Church.  Money raised goes to the Women's Division where it is distributed to the varied mission projects of the Global Board of Missions.
At First Church, we also donate to local missions and charitable groups serving the needs of women children and youth . Some of them are the Milwaukee Free Clinic, Neighborhood House, Goodwill , Hmong House of Good News, Safe Harbor, and Hope House for the Homeless.
The annual Sugar Plum Sweets and Holiday Treats is our main fundraiser, raising about $2,000.00 each year.  Smaller efforts are often needed as emergent needs arise.
Our unit has two CIRCLES of Friends that meet monthly. Martha Mary meets at church the first Monday each month at 2 pm. Dorcas meets in member homes .  Both circles have programs on building faith and fellowship in Christ service.
To join this fun and purposeful group, phone President Valerie Holzman at 414-543-9843.
