Heifer Project International

Picture
Since 1944, supporters of Heifer Project International have empowered millions of hungry families to achieve self-reliance and reached millions more through the passing on of gifts.  But there are still so many chronically hungry people in the world that Heifer International’s holistic approach to development is needed on an unprecedented scale.
We’re working together to:
  • Move families closer to self-reliance through the gift of livestock, extensive training, and “Passing on the Gift” of the baby animals to other families.
  • Help additional families through training in sustainable farming, microenterprise, gender equity and other community development program
  • Reach millions of families with training, access to veterinary care and to markets for their farm products
At the end of December, our Sunday School Children will “shop” from the funds donated for animals to provide through Heifer Project International:

     Heifer:           $500      Chicks:              $  20
     Honeybees:  $  30      Goat:                 $120
     Llama:           $150      Water Buffalo:   $250
     Sheep:          $120      Tree Seedlings: $  60
     Pig:               $120       Ducks:              $  20
     Camel:          $850       Rabbits:            $  60

Share your financial gifts this month to purchase life-empowering livestock for our neighbors in many countries. Help change lives all over the world!

Donations to Heifer Project International, in someone’s name, is a great Christmas gift!

Show Children that Family Ties are Stronger than Prison Bars

Picture
It is hard for prisoner’s children to be separated from their moms or dads at Christmas.  So every Christmas, thousands of churches across the U.S. reach out to many of the 1.5 million children with a parent in prison.  It begins simply by providing Christmas gifts on behalf of the incarcerated parents.  And it’s a way to introduce the greatest gift of all, the love of Jesus Christ.

There are many prisoners’ children living in the FUMC-WA neighborhood.  We can help reach them through Prison Fellowship Angel Tree, a program sponsored by Prison Fellowship, an interdenominational Christian outreach.

A Christmas tree will be set up in the narthex, decorated with paper angels that bear the names and gift wishes of children whose parents are incarcerated.  Individuals select angels from the tree, purchase the gifts listed, and return them to our church.  Gifts will be distributed to the children in time for Christmas.  This year, at our church, the project director is again Judy Affeldt.  Judy anticipates that more than 60 children will be assisted through the project here.  Similar Angel Trees will be set up in hundreds of cities across the country.

The Prison Fellowship Angel Tree at our church opens Sunday, November 20th when you can select one or more angels from the tree.  The gifts need to be purchased, wrapped, and returned to church by Sunday morning December 18th.

Judy will need volunteers to help with phone calls, addressing envelopes, and delivering the gifts.  If you can help, please call Judy at 414-425-1395 and volunteer for this wonderful project.
